Fruit medium to large, round to conical heavily ribbed, blood-red skin with greasy feel, mildly sweet crisp, juicy, flesh tends to stain reddish when very ripe. Ripe September to October, Spur Bearer. The name is believed to have originated from an incident in late 19th century Scotland when a Plougman was shot for stealing apples. His wife threw the stolen apples onto the rubbish heap; one of the resulting seedlings developed into this cultivar. Ripe September-October
