About Trees:
Fruit-Whips trees are all grafted trees. Attaching a small scion cutting of a 1 year old known variety to a rootstock with known characteristics to best fit your soil situation is referred to as grafting.
Trees will arrive bareroot and dormant. (Meaning there will be no dirt around roots or leaves on trees.)
The trees will require immediate planting or potting, be sure to plant or pot trees so graft union sits between 2”to 4” above ground level after soil settles, do not apply fertilizer at time of planting or potting. Allow roots to establish themselves for a minimum of a month prior to adding any balanced fertilizers. After planting or potting be sure to water daily for the first year. On every day of a good rain, you may take a break from watering for a few days then proceed again on the 4th day till you have rain again then follow the same previous break cycle. Once tree is established after a year, an inch of rainfall every 7-10 days should sustain a tree. If there are extended periods without rainfall you should supplement rainfall by watering the tree.
Be sure to add a layer of clean dry mulch around the tree for preventing weed growth near the tree. Be sure to leave approximately a 2” space between the tree truck and mulch to prevent the mulch from coming in contact with the tree.
Be sure to place a tree protector of some sort around the tree to protect it from pets, rodents, and/or lawn equipment.
For apple trees; we graft to G890 semi-dwarf, B118 semi-standard, and Domestica seedlings standard rootstocks.
For Pears we graft to Quince Province semi-dwarf, OHxF97 standard, and Callery standard. Note, Callery rootstock is not permitted in some states… Customer is responsible for verifying Callery rootstock is not banned in customers State prior to ordering any fruit trees on Callery rootstock. If Callery rootstock is ordered to be shipped to a state in which we realize later Callery is banned, Fruit Whips at its discretion will either supplement the chosen fruit variety with a different available rootstock, or refund and cancel the affected tree variety. Note if a tree cancellation causes an order for a 4 tree or more discount to fall below 3 trees the discount will no longer apply to the order.
Most, properly cared for fruit trees should begin producing fruit in about five years or less.
